Computer Graphics
My CG and mixed digital works are a new media, but also utilize traditional techniques from photography and painting. I start my compositions with a background photograph. Next, I create the subjects of the work using a customized commercial 3D model base. Then, I add 3D modeled clothing and hair to the figures. Many of the "clothes" have custom textures I designed using Photoshop. The 3D models are posed over the photo backdrop and given expressions, utilizing DAZ Studio.
Models are lit with simulated "lights." I match the light direction and atmosphere of the backdrop, using commercial rendering software, to achieve the desired effect. Once the scene is properly lit, the image is rendered. The image is finalized with Adobe Photoshop and other editing software. Clipping errors are fixed. Reflections, shading, and other details are added for realism.
To achieve the look of analog photography, I apply many effects with image editing software. I modify the colors, graininess, and focus of the image.
I consider the mood I wish to convey as well as the time-period and setting of the piece.
